Captain Ahmed Hassan scored a goal and set up another as the Pharaohs saw off Nigeria in a Group C encounter in Benguela.

The Super Eagles took an early lead in the 12th minute when Hoffenheim striker Chinedu Obasi cut inside and sent a left-footed effort from outside the area leaving Essam El Hadary with no chance of stopping it.

After Almeria’s Kalu Uche missed from inside the box, Egypt hit Nigeria on the counter attack; Hassan sent a lovely ball past the on looking Joseph Yobo into the path of Emab Moteab of Al-Ahly, who beat the charging Vincent Enyeama to the ball and slotted it into an empty net.

In the 54th minute Hassan blasted a cracking strike on goal which deflected off the back of Taye Taiwo into the roof of Enyeama’s net.

The Pharaohs added a third in the 87th minute when they again hit Nigeria on the counter, when substitute Mohamed Gedo took a pass from Moteab and beat a diving Enyeama.

Egypt defeated Nigeria for the first time in 47 years and stretched their unbeaten Nations Cup run to fourteen matches; they will face Mozambique on Saturday, while Nigeria face neighbors Benin.
