Written by Damien Johnson    PDF Print E-mail

Both teams were looking for their first victories at a Nations Cup competition, and both may feel they let victory slip from their grasps.

Nigeria –born striker Razak Omotoyossi scored from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after he was brought down by Mozambique keeper Kapango, who received a card for his actions.

Benin’s lead was doubled six minutes later when Mozambique defender Khan inadvertently put the ball into his own net during an attempted challenge.

Benin keeper Yoann Djidonou flapped at a corner and the Mambas capitalized when defender Lobo scored with a header in the 29th minute.

Djidonou committed another error when he sprinted from the area to clear a through ball into touch. Mozambique took a quick throw-in and found Goncalves who scored from the center of the penalty area before Djidonou could return to his post.

Benin earned their first ever point in a Nations Cup competition.
