Tunisia managed to salvage a draw against a strong Zambian side in the Group D opener. Zambia dominated the game in large portions and went ahead when Holland based striker Jacob Mulenga received a pass from fellow striker James Chamanga and scored with a clinical finish in the 18th minute. The Carthage Eagles struggled to find themselves for most of the first half but managed to equalize in the 40th minute when Zhoueir Dhaouadi beat Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene, set-up by a clever backheel from Youssef Msakni. Throughout the rest of the encounter the underdog Zambians looked like the side more likely to go ahead. Rainford Kalaba missed a free header from close range and Muelenga again threatened Aymen Mathlouthi's goal with a shot that went just wide of the post and substitute Emmanuel Mayuka though he had scored the winner for Zambia with a header but was ruled offside.
