The Pharoahs of Egypt won the African Cup of Nations for the third consecutive time with a 1-0 victory over Ghana in Luanda, Angola on Sunday. This time the Egyptians left it late to seal the win with a Mohamed Gedo 85th minute goal being the decider. Gedo, on as a substitute, curled in a shot from inside the area to give Egypt the victory and a seventh total African championship. The Black Stars of Ghana found themselves in a situation in contrast to their semi-final match vs Nigeria. In this case Ghana dominated a majority of the match but failed to create good chances on goal. The Black Stars will be able to take comfort in knowing they played the tournament with a fairly young squad comprising a number of U-20 talent. Egypt, despite not qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, will be able to celebrate their title and know they beat four world cup teams on their way to the title- Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria and Ghana, and that they still possess a 19 match unbeaten run in the African Nations Cup tournament.
